- Whatever type of scene you are writing, use all the character’s senses; sound, sight, smell, and touch, as well as their physical and emotional dimensions. What do they hear, see, and smell? Stories stand on storytelling abilities and depth of characterization, not on how many times the hero takes off his, her or each others pants.
